The paper focuses on the circulation of knowledge, media confluences, and human agency. Drawing largely on the RFE archives at the Vera and Donald Blinken Open Society Archives (OSA) and the former secret police files at the National Council for the Study of the Secu-ritate Archives (CNSAS), it investigates how radio waves mediated and channeled information while preparing people to embrace political and cultural change. This paper analyzes the role of RFE in everyday life in the strictly controlled Romanian communist state by looking at the broadcasts of RFE's Romanian Department, their audience, and their impact. Then, it analyzes each factor in the revolution and post-communist Romania.ĭuring the communist era, Radio Free Europe (RFE) was Romania's favorite radio station. This paper, in order to make the factors clear and to see how they affected the new Romania, firstly explains the historical background of the communist regime in Romania and the revolution of 1989. The undemocratic revolution led to an undemocratic Romania after the revolution. The revolution lacked the reflection of public opinion with peaceful procedures. And the revolution contained violence and more than 1000 people were dead while other revolutions were peaceful in East-Central Europe. A new political organization consisted of former members of the communist party dominantly. ![]() ![]() There was no opposing groups against the regime which could be the alternative political organizations formed by citizens. Next is power of former members of the Romanian Communist Party. The first factor is the absence of opposing organizations against the communist regime. ![]() There are three factors, which brought the undemocratic Romania, in the process of the revolution. Why was new Romania after the revolution undemocratic? The answer can be found in the revolution. People and oppositions were deceived and oppressed by the group. The post-communist Romania was controlled by one group. However, the new regime and society after the revolution was not democratic. ![]() It created a new political regime abolishing the sultanistic politics. The Romanian revolution of 1989 influenced on the Romanian society with blood.
